About Us
The Dolman Theatre is owned and run by Newport Playgoers Society. Each year
the society puts on eight plays, each of which runs for one week, Wednesday to
Saturday. The associated youth groups perform frequently in the studio and on
the main stage. If you want to participate in any capacity or need more
information about the Newport Playgoers Society, visit their page.
Visiting companies hire the theatre to stage some two dozen musicals and
dance shows per year, mostly amateur with the occasional professional
performance. A studio facility is also available for smaller scale productions,
both amateur and professional.
If you are new to the area and want to get involved, the Associated
Groups page will put you in touch with a wide variety of local
societies.
If you want to hire any part (or all) of the theatre (see Rooms for Hire)
for meetings, lectures, rehearsals, classes or performances, please contact us.
The theatre is professionally managed by Lisa Aston-Griffiths. She is
normally available in the office between 11am and 3pm on weekdays. She, or
another duty manager, is present whenever the theatre is open to the
public.
Daniel Aston is the resident caretaker. He and Andre Paul Spring form the
rest of the duty manager team.
With the exception of cleaning, all ancillary services, such as staffing the
bar, publicity and administration are provided by volunteers. Please contact
Lisa if you wish to take part in any of these 'behind the scenes'
activities.
