About Us

The Dolman Theatre is owned and run by Newport Playgoers Society. Each year the society puts on nine plays, each of which runs for one week, Wednesday to Saturday. The associated youth groups perform frequently in the studio and on the main stage. If you want to participate in any capacity or need more information about the Newport Playgoers Society, visit their page.

Visiting companies hire the theatre to stage some two dozen musicals and dance shows per year, mostly amateur with the occasional professional performance. A studio facility is also available for smaller scale productions, both amateur and professional.

We offer a box office service on Saturdays between 10am and 1pm to the general public. All tickets are available to purchase on line.

If you are new to the area and want to get involved, the Associated Groups page will put you in touch with a wide variety of local societies.

If you want to hire any part (or all) of the theatre (see Rooms for Hire) for meetings, lectures, rehearsals, classes or performances, please contact us.

The theatre is professionally managed by Lisa Aston. She is normally available in the managers office between 10am and 2pm on weekdays. She, or another duty manager, is present whenever the theatre is open to the public.

Darian Thomas is the resident caretaker and Duty Manager

With the exception of cleaning, all ancillary services, such as staffing the bar, publicity and administration are provided by volunteers. Please contact Lisa if you wish to take part in any of these 'behind the scenes' activities.
