About Us

The Dolman Theatre is proudly owned and operated by the Newport Playgoers Society, a long-established cultural institution committed to promoting the performing arts in South Wales. Each year, the Society stages eight full-scale theatrical productions, running Wednesday through Saturday for one week each. These performances showcase a diverse range of dramatic works and are a cornerstone of the theatre’s annual calendar.

👥 Youth Engagement

Our affiliated youth group, Dolman Theatreworks, regularly performs both in the studio and on the main stage, nurturing the next generation of theatrical talent through dynamic and engaging productions.

🎶 Visiting Companies & Studio Hire

In addition to our in-house programming, the Dolman Theatre welcomes approximately two dozen visiting companies annually. These performances—primarily musicals and dance shows—are predominantly amateur, with occasional professional engagements. The theatre also offers a versatile studio space suitable for smaller-scale productions, available to both amateur and professional groups.

🏛️ Venue Hire

👩‍💼 Management & Contact Information

The theatre is professionally managed by Lisa Aston, who is typically available in the Manager’s Office from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on weekdays. Lisa, or an appointed duty manager, is present whenever the theatre is open to the public.

Benedict Hurley, our Deputy Manager, is available from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on weekdays.

All other roles within the theatre are fulfilled by a dedicated team of volunteers.
